OK I've been reading a lot of posts but I don't think I have found what I was looking for. It's simple if you go to 16s from 17s on a cup does it have much of an effect on handling. I want to keep my 17s nice so thought I could use 16s for track days and maybe winter tyres. As we know there is more choice if we look at 195/45 16s. I know the car came on the smaller wheel but the suspension is different. Has anyone done this and how did it go. Over to the wheel men/woman thanks.

I was looking at some deep dish and wondering more how it would effect the gear ratios especially if you keep the 195/40 on 16s any ideas?

If you keep the overall diameter of the wheel/tyre combo the same, then there should be no change to the gear ratios...

If you change the overall diameter, then the gearing will be affected - this will not only have an affect on performance/speed, but will also throw the reading of the speedometer out and you'll find yourself running into trouble with the law...

Hope this helps - if you want a more detailed explanation, I can ask one of the physics specialists within the department (I'm a trainee biology teacher, physics is Greek to me)...

I've ran 16" Clio turinis for winter, never had a problem if anything they ride better than the cup 17s. Both sets on the same Conti sport 3s. As said above if the overall diameter is the same there is no issue.

So maybe some clio 182s with 195/45 16s off eBay or go mad and get after market in a bright colour. Decision decision.
