I have been doing some reading, according to what I have read an external wastegate is more accurate and efficient than an internal wastegate. Just seeing what other peoples opinions are on this. should I look at replacing, or controlling the existing unit more accurately with a boost controller? Considering also one option costs about £10 the other considerably more money and effort!

depends what turbo are u running??
i posted pics of mine on your exhaust thread btw!!
90% of people only use them for effect/noise!

Lol - im more a function over form person anyway. I may change the turbo at some point, so was thinking ahead a little bit. Im sure internal is ok up to a bar or so anyway

internals are fine up to about 1.5 bar (depending on set up)

as said most peope only have an external for bragging rights down the pub.
i think the biggest problems are cost and space

is this for your gt?
to be fair internal should be more than upto the job on any size turbo for a gt.
plus as said they aint cheap to buy/fit.

the best thing to do would be to do any other mods u where thinking of and seeing how u go then do the wastegate last if u think its worth it or have some spare cash!

or just man up and get a screamer pipe NOW

Lol - quickly go through what's needed for a screamer pipe, think u mentioned it before

The little penny wastegate in the turbo can only flow so much excess pressure through it. its basically a bigger wastegate.
when a certain pressure is reached the external wastegate bypasses the exhaust and re-routes the air down a diff pipe-normally very short so as to grt rid as soon as poss hence the noise and name "screamer pipe"
u would need a pipe welded on your manifold,an external wastegate setup and a peice of pipe

il post some pics on this thread for u

not all the time as at idle it will b shut and will use the normal exhaust.
if its a road going car u have to set the w/gate pressure so as it opens at high revs (eg 4grand+)that way it will go thro an mot as they rev to a max of 3grand for the emissions test
;) ;)

plus none of my cars have cats

one of the dearest parts is getting your manifold welded so as u can mount the w/gate
like so...

if u watch this vid it shows when he drives "normally" its using the full exhaust system -so legal and mot'able

but when he nails it and the revs reach around 5500+ the screamer pipe is active

might as well get tubular mani while your at it that could be future proof for bigger turbos. im guessing a change in the manifold will give you huge increase of stock one

Lol the £s build up! I'm quite happy with the straight line speed and exhaust for now, it's never going to be too amazing on straights. Going to focus more on handling for a bit. Got some spare cash that may be better spent on something else to get it all set up properly rather than just in straight lines

u could always save up a bit each month and then do an engine transplant when uv got the cash?

Meh - its still my daily driver for now. Something like that will happen when I start a proper job and have another car for everyday use. Remember I have a 'B' Birmingham post code so insurance is an issue with something like that.
