My two rear wheels have started to 'peel' around the rims, I've spoken to Renault UK and they have said that it is caused by the wheels getting knocked/caught when the tires have been changed, causing an area of the lacquer to be removed, water has then found these 'holes/gaps' and worked itself around the rest of the wheel.

Renault UK have offered to pay for 50% of the cost for two new alloys, so I'd be paying around £270.

taking into consideration the cost of this, has anybody refurbed gordini alloys in the north east? or at least diamond cut alloys to get an idea of cost?

part of me is thinking to have them sprayed another colour possibly white, or to go and buy a set of second hand oz ultraleggeras.

270 sounds alright to me mate. We wanted a new wheel from Nissan for our 350z after the old one got damaged. The wanted in excess of 800 for one wheel!

eBay became our best friend!

I would snatch there hand off for that if you can afford.

You will be looking at about £90 ea diamond cut.

My Zenders are 15''s and cost me think it was £65 ea diamond cut.

You could get them powder coated £50 ea

@meathelmet: 800?!!? jesus thats steep!

@Maggi: yeah there was no mention of 'trading' the existing wheels in, so i gather i could always sell on the wheels i have now to help cover the cost.. thats if I could get rid of them as they are kind of a niche market :/

@ollie: cheers mate, definetly food for thought as one of the fronts needs refurbing due to ill-placed kerb haha! I'll do a quick photoshop session over the weekend putting the wheels in black, blue and white.

That happened on my Gordini. It's because they use diamond cut alloys which suck on our roads due to all the crap on them. I went to the wheel specialist and got them sorted. They have branches all over the UK and are awesome! Cost me £60 an alloy and I had them done white and never had the peeling problem again.

Sorry forgot to say when I had mine redone they were powder coated. Looked great and so much cheaper than new alloys.

You can get a chrome powdercoat which looks pretty smart , i was contemplating it over diamond cutting. Cheaper then diamond cutting, and pretty close match with colour .

What about like this? Stole the pic of sprayshacks Facebook page so could always get a quote of them.

I stole the pic so how would i know. Maybe ask the company I stole it from haha

Always been tempted to get something like it done though

Ive always had an idea in my head for gordini wheels..

I love the fact they are polished so i wouldnt feel right painting over that part..

But what about just getting the coloured 'inserts' painted white?

Photoshop this please somebody, ive always imagined it!

That sounds like the worst of both worlds :?

white so you NEED to fully clean then often otherwise they will look crap. And, polished which means any minor dink in the lacquer is likely to see it blister off from the un-primed polished face. So, you would have to be super careful each and every time you cleaned them to save knocking them with the handle of the wheel brush or something.
