Hi guys!

Im new on here but im getting desperate, Ive been looking for a new car for a while but options keep getting more and more plentiful!

I have around 3 grand to spend and thats just on the boundary of finding a twingo 133, Insurance ive managed to get down to 489quid and for a 23 year old i dont think thats too bad!!

However i will be using this for trips to uni to begin with and then motorway driving to my placement,

what are these like to live with from day to day? need some people experienced with these to give me some advice!!

Ste

Hi and welcome. The Twingo 133 is a cracking little car. I owned a couple of 172`s in the past and I find on a long journey the Twingo is a great car, equal to the 172`s. It will sit happily on the motorway and b roads are a breeze. If you get the full fat version, the two indivdual rear seats fold up to give you more space because to be fair, it`s not a massive car but by doing this you create your own Renaultsport mini van. They do have one or two niggles but what car doesn`t. The main one being ball joints. There are posts on this subject on the forum. If you are going to pay around the three mark, def make sure everything is good! No accident damage/ accident repaired, good service history, as many bills for work done as possible. HPI checks are invaluable! Also worth popping the reg number on here if it`s had several owners and asking if anyone knows the car. We all look after our cars on here, so well worth a look round the forum. As with buying any car, you just have to have a good look and do the checks!

I hated the twingo rs for motorway journeys. You'll get bored of it revving it self to death at 70mph, and the noise. I get better mpg on the motorway in a 2.5litre 1 and half tonne car

It wont be for motorways mainly, more of a mix,

Ive heard of it being rather loud on motorways, but the last car i drove was 3500revs at 75 anyways,

The Twingo didn`t get an MPG on trip computer until the 2012 facelift. Some say around 35. Yes they can be a bit loud on motorways but it`s like the cup chassis, some say it`s uncomfortable but I find it better than my full fat 172. It`s just each individuals choice. If you can get a good one for the money, they`re ideal.

I worked mine out as no mpg on trip, 30mpg on motorway no matter how I drove

thats not too bad,

are there any niggles to look out for? or any major stuff that needs doing with higher mileage?

Someone on here retro fitted a Renault monitor, so anything is possible! As for niggles, my car is a lower milage car, so high milage is foreign to me on a Twingo but I know the ball joints are an issue. Check all the bells and whistles work ok i.e lights heater and so on. Airbag lights coming on which is usually cured by giving the wires under seat a wiggle and making sure connectors are ok. Also try not to kerb the wheels because tyres on cup wheels are like rubber bands. There is a heavier Renaultsport gear knob available as some may find the standard one a bit light and the heavier one gives a better more precise gear change but that`s each individuals choice. When you are looking, just make sure you give the car a good look over, body kits lining up properly, panel gaps and so on. Many years ago I nearly got caught on an Escort RS Turbo. Not everyone is as nice as we are on here.

Hey i have a 133 cup that i use on motorway daily. I sit at 60 and get 42 mpg on average as anything over it revs pretty high. I do 105 miles a day and car doesnt miss a beat appart from a new issue thats popped up. Tyres are cheap if u upgrade to 205/40/17 and if u service and do brakes urself ur laughing although clutch went at 45ish k miles and cost me 700 quid and a week qith out my car!! If u dont mind a bumpy ride 133's are good car although not as tunable as the wee turbo version and with some mods could be quicker

The 133 is an all round better car, I just mentioned the gt incase u never considered it as im guessing it would be Easyer to live with. My car is the cup (no luxuries at all) and I love it. And if u don't mind sitting at 3.5k revs at 70 on motorway you can't fault them, and the handling is awesome!
