Been having a grumbling, pulsing, rattling (covers everything !!) noise from the front of the car and the garage have had a look and said its the aircon compressor ?! Weird as it does it all of the time even when no heating is turned on ....

Fortunatley its all under warrnaty but supposedly its an £800 part ! And also will take about 3 - 4 hours to replace as the bumper has to come off completely on the front ..... not ideal !

Has anyone else had the same or something similar happen ?

Well I have had this changed today and still the same noise ! The garage have been very helpful to date and I have to say they are trying their best. The technician does agree there is a noise and if you hold the aircon pipe (back left side of car) you can feel it vibrating ... its a weird sort of surging I think, so you get a vibration coming from the aircon pump / compressor thing ....

I notice it when the car is just ticking over especially in the garage where the noise resonates off the walls .... does anyone have any ideas ? or similar noise ? The Garage have never seen another 133 Twingo to be able to compare it too ....

Am struggling .....

To be honest your best bet will be to take it into your local Renault and get them to change it under warranty. It doesn't sound as though there's going to be a quick fix, most likely a faulty part.

Not heard of anybody with the same problem however I can't speak for everyone :)

This was a Renault Main Dealer and it was changed under warranty but still same noise.... they said they put a 'listener device' down in the engine bay and that it was coming from around the aircon pump .... like I said front bumper has been off and back on and the think changed. Aircon was drained, vacume drained and regassed and still the same ......

But at least it doesn't sound like a common fault

Hi I tried to record the sound on my phone but didn;t work very well so not sure its worth posting.... def seems to be coming from back end of the engine bay, left side as you look at it possibly central underneth. Weird thing is you only notice the noise at idle this is when there is a resonance / vibration. My thought was a loose bracket or exhaust manifold but the aircon pipe at back of engine bay def had a vibration in it - hence why I think the garage decided to replace the aircon compressor.

What else is there in the same area of the engine bay or could be linked to the compressor unit ? The tech said they used a 'listener' in the engine bay and hence why they identifed the compressor.

I believe the dealer is now going to try and see if they can get another Twingo 133 to compare noises as it may be a 'characteristic' which I think is doubtful as feedback on here suggests - problem is they haven't got one ....
I thought maybe they should contact Renaultsport Specialist too ?

hi mate first thing u want to do is remove the aux belt and run it and see if the noise goes.
if it does its prob the altenator pulley or the belt tensioner.

if the noise is still there it could b waterpump/depasher probs??

also just a thought and i know it sounds random but does the noise go if u press the clutch??
iv had afew clutch release bearing probs but they sound like they are coming from the belt area :? :?

Hi thanks for the suggestions .. I'll pass on info to the garage ...

Makes no difference with the clutch depressed I alrready thought of that.

Do any of your suggestions eg aux belt etc and the replacement bits need the bumper to come off again ? What about water pump etc ... are these big jobs .....

My car is only 5 months old and I hate all this removing bits and pieces ...... starts to feel second hand ...

Cheers

well the water pump and dephaser are both pretty big jobs as driven by the cambelt.
not meaning to sound rude but i wouldnt have taken the bumper off to change the a/c comp ;)

does this noise go when revs are raised from idle? and can you feel through the car ie when your just sitting in car?

No the noise stays the same if I apply a light throttle and raise the revs slightly .... I did notice the other day that whern it was cold and first turned on car it wasn't as much as then as the car settle down after about a minute to more of normal idle speed is started. Its like a resonance you can hear it as much inside the car as outside in fact proably more inside as you don't get so much engine noise in background ... it does appear to be coming pretty much straight in front of me when I am driving and when outside its same from back to middle of engine bay towards bottom / rear ...

Still waiting to hear back from the garage with their next suggestion .. I passed on the aux belt idea etc and they said yes could do but it means bumper off again for a second time !!

Hmm I thought that yesterday as I stoped in the services for munch got in started the car up turned it on sounded like a lorry pulling up but as I noticed as you turn it on it raises the reves slightly.
