I'm tempted to try it. Sounds much easier than taking the head off and would also get the hard to reach places in the upper manifold too.

At least theres no turbo to worry about

There shouldn't be any damage, as its just a hollow tube with no moving parts or valves.
Although, throwing gravel down one ot these beasts would be bad for your eyebrows :?
