Since the passenger door lock started doing a horrid screech each time it locked, decided to finally get round to replacing it with another unit.

You will need;
- torx 15 screwdriver
- torx 30 screwdriver
- small, flat screwdriver (or other to pry things off)
- replacement lock
- torch (recommended)

Step1)

Using a flat screwdriver, slightly pry away the wing mirror interior cover (I wrapped my screwdriver in tape to avoid leaving scuff marks). Pull the cover out towards you once you can get you fingers behind it (it's 'plugged' in, so no need to be afraid of breaking any clips).

Step 2)

Undo four screws holding the door card - torx 15, one on the side, three at the bottom. Pull the door card away, starting from either side, then bottom, then other side. Once the three edges are loose, pull the door card up, to free off the top edge.

Step 3)

Pry off the cover in the door handle and undo the torx 30 screw. Pry off the cover in the ... other door handle :D and undo the torx 15 screw.

Step 4)

Unclip the electric windows cable and again using the screwdriver pry off the door handle cable - pry from the top, rather than side (see photo).

Step 5)

Undo the 3 flat torx 15 screws holding the lock, at the side of the door.

Step 6)

Gently pull away the foam insulation (?) to gain access to the interior of the door.

Step 7)

Unclip the cable from the exterior door handle.

Step 8)

Work the lock mechanism out from the door (Renault manual specifies you should remove the window sliders too, but this, I found, is unnecessary). Unclip the electric cable from the lock.

Step 9)

Repeat the above in reverse order with new lock :)

The hardest part will be latching the cable to the exterior door handle - again, Renault service manual claims it's necessary to drill out the rivet holding the handle and only then reassembling, but that calls for a replacement Renault sourced rivet and rivet gun. With a combination of luck, small enough hands, patience and tongue contortioning it is doable without removing the handle.

Double check the lock works correctly prior to fixing the door card back on. With the reverse of step 4, I found the door handle to cable latch alligns perfectly itself when you just clip it back in, but make sure it does for you too.

Just a small update - had the same happen recently on the other side door - the driver's side door has a lock barrel. Unfortunately to take the door lock out, you need to also take out the lock barrel, which I have failed to do myself. Can't get the securing ring to budge :(
