Odd braking

Today I had to break hard from around 60mph to stop for some inconsiderate traffic lights. I pushed the pedal as far as it would go but when i got to about 20mph it suddenly pressed about another inch.
Could this be my ABS or have I broke something?
 
I think that is the brake assist, so when you're braking really hard to come to a stop the car applies even more pressure as you get down to a safe enough speed to do so. At least that's what I assume happens, I may be wrong. I know I experienced it on my old clio a few times and nothing broke or failed on me, so it's nothing to worry about :)
