So the other day I changed my spark plugs which involved me taking off the airbox in order to do this.

engine-gearbox-exhaust-air-intake-system/airbox-way-changing-plugs-t9007.html

But now although performance is restored the car seems weird.

There is a bit of a judder almost to stalling point when idle, but it hasnt actually stalled yet. The exhaust is making this putt-putt-putt noise a bit like a rally car only not as cool and slightly worrying. And to cap it all off the spanner and toxic fume lights come on intermittently. I have it booked in to the renault garage on wednesday for a diagnostic.

Does anyone know where i might have gone wrong changing the spark plugs and a way to fix it without spending £200 plus at the renault garage.

sounds like a misfire had this on my clio make sure all your leads to the plugs are on properly. go smell the exhaust fumes if the smell a bit like rotten egg its a missfire :)

Are all the HT leads the right way around and pushed on properly at both ends? And the spark plugs are the correct ones? It sounds like you maybe a spark down. try a spark plug testing kit, The exhaust tends to make a little putt-putt noise anyway.

It's not a good pic but the only one I have of the HT leads are yours the same way as theses.

I changed the spark plugs one by one and thus put the leads back in exactly the same order. i will check and compare with your leads mikehealy5.

I got the new plugs from renault. they matched them with my liscense plate. i did however take out a different kind of spark plug than the new ones i installed.

NGK-LZKAR7B is the name of the old plugs

NGK-ILKAR7A7 is the name of the new plugs

IIRC a few people had issues with installing different spark plugs awhile back.

I'm sure the ones ending in B are from the 1.2
Non turbo ...

The general consensus is that the NGK-ILKAR7A7 is the correct plug for the GT. Is there any way that the car has been "programmed" or has "gotten use" to working with the different plugs?

They have been in the car since i got it last year, and were not really a problem till recently. Although there is a new smoothness to the car since i put the new ones in.

I have just checked and all the plug wires are in the correct place. There is no smell of "eggs" and the Putt-Putt of the exhaust wasnt there before. i might just have to take out the plugs and re inspect them before taking in the car on wednesday.

From what I have researched the plugs ending A7 are the correct ones. But I'm yet to buy them so maybe the info on from ngk is wrong? I'd put the old plugs back in and see if it runs properly and if so buy 4 new 7b's if its still not right then possibly an injector issue??? Double check every thing you took off the car. Check the air box is connected up properly and all pipes, wires and sensors around that area are ok. You could of knocked something whilst working on the car!

either a plug is faulty or one of the leads has died or isnt connected properly, check its clipped on properly at the coil pack and ensure none of the leads are broken, ive known them to brake before when removing the lead from plug

I checked the connections they all appear to be intact. I have a spark plug tester arriving tomorrow.

How can you tell if a plug wire is faulty? Mine all appear fine although one of them have just a small bit of white residue on it, as if oil and water mixed at some point i'll post a pic in the morning and people can tell me whether its superficial or not.
