Took my car to a garage in Walton to get my cam belt replaced..... a day and a half later I get a phone call from someone else that now has my car, apparently I have a nail in one of my brand new contisports and it has to be replaced for £150....... Lets take a poll on how many people think I've been conned?? the nail was in the side wall of my tyre, I didn't realise at all, pretty convenient eh?

They can give you the tyre, as no doubt an eco charge has been applied to dispose of this. It does sound odd.

I would ask that they return the car with the old tyre as the work was not approved. I would never do work before finding out if it was agreed first

Don't pay it , if you didn't auth the repair

aye man, don't bother your backside with the new tyre. that's a disgraceful price too and one which you never authorised nor were asked to authorise. if they have disposed of your tyre, then stand your ground and if you need to stand firm and tell them that you'll report them to trading standards as well as the IMI for improper practice and then sue the dealership. in my time at renault and even after, i never once assumed a customer would want me to go ahead with this or that i always made a point of having the service girls phone customers to have the job authorised. worst case scenario mate go to a tyre shop yourself and you will get it for a ton cheaper!

lol obviously you're not going to sue anybody but don't let the slimy service manager even get a yard on you when you stand your ground :D i hate service managers. con artists at best, always leave the mechanics in the shit

Ask for the tyre back and have it repaired . Specialist company's do repair to side walls worth doing if the tyre is brand new normally £30-£40 as we had a few sent away to be repaired at work

I got the tyre replaced and I've kept the old tyre to see if anywhere will repair it, I need a new tyre for the rear very badly so it will come in use! Also, my car now sounds different from before it had the new cam belt, it sounds a lot deeper and a bit rustier sounding if you get my drift? is this normal?

There's two black round plugs, about 50mm diameter on the end of the cylinder head. These are blanks which need to be removed to fit the camshaft timing tool, which needs to be slotted into the shafts to lock them in place whilst the pulleys are slackened to set the timing.

If they haven't been removed, then the timing won't be correct. It may be close by marking the belt and pulleys then matching the marks up, but its not going to be correct. Check to see if the blanking plugs look brand new.

those are the ones neil. certainly appear to look spot on to the timing tools i've got. didn't expect to find them on ebay! dbird it sounds like your timing has retarded (popped backwards by one tooth or two). the result would be a much throatier engine sound, deeper and will appear to have a lumpier idle than normal?

if anyones interested, this is a fairly accurate guide on how timing is done on your k4m engines although he's got one bit wrong. ten pounds sterling for anyone who points out the mistake :D

The idea of having non- keyed cam sprockets, is the cam sprockets can be loosened, then rotated on the camshaft(s) to accurately set the cam position with reference to the crank/pistons. Why disturb the crank pulley as having slack cam pulleys will let you set the timing and belt tension correctly :?

yeah that sounds about right, so I need to go back to the garage and get them to sort it out? because that definitely sounds like the problem

yeah man, it's not been tensioned correctly. won't be any extra cash out of your pocket though so don't worry about that. you paid for a service and you didn't receive it lol. appears as if the crankshaft wasn't retarded by a tooth so that the slack on the belt wasn't taken up or they turned the engine through 720* without setting the tension on the pulley, or it could just be that the belt was a little too slack and when VVT kicks in it's slipped back a tooth

got it, ill take a screenshot of what you guys wrote and send it to them as I have no clue what that all means haha, thanks!
