Thanks to a chat with Jake after gettin his 197 I'm thinkin of gettin a artic 182 that's at the same dealers. Dunno weather to go from a 58 plate to a 05 but as Graham told me he done the same and never looked back

As I said, they are getting fairly 'old' now so bits will need changing, if not already done so.

Also, I cannot stress how important the belt changes are. They need to be done on time, with the correct tools and by a reputable specialist.

Apart from that, they are a reet hoot!! A LOT of car for the money, especially if you get the FF182.

Just triple check the service history, and they are a very reliable car if looked after :). As soon as you drive one, you won't miss the GT at all. Plus you get far better fuel economy too, or I am anyways.

I had a 172 before my 133 and absolutely loved it! I will definately get another (or possibly try a 182) in the next year when I've got enough money saved up. You definately won't regret owning a 1*2 and you can pick them up for next to nothing now!

As above, ensure the belts have been changed (every 5 years -or- 72k miles) and that it's been serviced regulary. A mate of mine picked up a mint 182 with FSH and belt changes with 32k on the clock for 4k! Very hard to find an example like that so cheap but keep an eye out and you'll find one.

Jump on ClioSport.net and check their buyers guides.

Yeah I'm proper thinkin about It. Matt I was on cliosport when i had my Clio find it abit clicky on there

im only cliosport and find it abit of an odd site!

i loved my 172 and wish id never sold it- in fact im watching afew on fleebay atm!!!
id have a 172 over a 200 anyday.

Belt changes are every 3yrs or 36k ;), well the aux belt is.

And tbh, you may aswell do the cam belt at the same time, because you have to take the aux belt off to get to the cam belt.

My missus is in Kent, next time I'm down that way, I'll give you a shout and you can take mine for a spin..., if you already haven't bought one by then!!

To be honest the 172/182s are brilliant cars and in terms of performance a step up from the 133.

That said the 133 is more modern and will put as much of a smile on your face. It's a tough call as the Clio will be a fair bit cheaper to buy. :)

I only have the Gt mate :(

As far as I see it, the twingo at that age has lost the benefits over a 172/182. MOT's suddenly become and issue and things will sooner or later need replacing much like the clio. So if you can afford/can justify the insurance difference then I personally would go for the clio myself

Insurance isn't an issue, mine, I'm paying £650 fully declared on a performance capped premium. Basically, all modifications declared and I can do what I like to my car and it won't go up. Not until I break the 200bhp limit, dyno prooved.

I'm 23, 5yrs no claims, 3pts (TS10).

Repair costs are the only thing that are going to sting a bit. Going from a GT to a 182, you'll find the simplest of things like changing a headlight bulb a mare!! If you can do it under 20mins, you're doing good!!

It took me a hour to do a bulb on her scenic the other day got the cuts to prove it lol. This 182 has the gas bulbs in

If you don't cut yourself when car tinkering, it hasn't been sucessful

Yarp, they have xenons as standard (unless you go for the Cup or Trophy) it's like 2hrs book time at Renault.

Front bumper off, headlight out is the way to go. You can just fit your hand down and get the bulbs out with the bumper on, but you'll smack the bulb on the air con pipes/headlight as room is uber tight. It takes all of 5mins to take the front bumper off and then you'll have all the room you need :D
